Eli Lilly’s GCC in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Emerges as GCC Powerhouse with Inauguration of Eli Lilly’s Global Nerve Centre

Hyderabad – On August 4, 2025, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alongside IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, inaugurated Eli Lilly and Company’s new Technology & Innovation Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad’s Hitech City. The sprawling 220,000 sq ft facility is already operational with 100–120 professionals, and plans to scale to 1,500 employees within the next few years, potentially by 2026–27.

“This is not just another centre, we’re launching the nerve centre of Eli Lilly,” Reddy affirmed. “It will manage, lead, and accelerate the company’s global operations from Hyderabad.” He underscored the state’s ambition, saying the GCC growth aligns with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision and will propel the state toward achieving a US $1 trillion economy.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s expanding life sciences clout, the Chief Minister noted: “One in every three vaccines administered worldwide is developed or manufactured in Hyderabad.” The city now hosts over 2,000 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, cementing its status as India’s Life Sciences Capital.

At the inauguration, Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted recent infrastructure advances, including Genome Valley and medtech parks, which have added over 1.1 crore sq ft for R&D, as well as Telangana’s successful mobilization of ₹3.2 lakh crore in just 19 months. He revealed Hyderabad added 70 new GCCs in FY 2024–25, aiming for 100 in FY 2025–26.

Eli Lilly’s digital hub will focus on key tech domains: AI, automation, cloud computing, and software engineering, elevating global health outcomes through innovation and efficiency. The centre is envisioned not as a support unit, but a global innovation engine.

The IndUS Business Journal later echoed this sentiment: Hyderabad has “rapidly evolved into a global hub for GCCs,” with the Eli Lilly site serving as the “brain of the corporation.”

Recent recognition adds further prestige: Hyderabad has been ranked among the top seven life sciences clusters globally, the only Indian city on that list. Since December 2023, the sector has drawn ₹54,000 crore in investments and created 200,000 jobs. Companies such as Eli Lilly, Amgen, MSD, Zoetis, Evernorth, and Olympus have established GCCs in the city. Telangana aims to scale its life sciences economy to US $250 billion by 2030.
